Andr\u00e9 Gantois, 72 ans, habitant \u00e0 Ludres (Meurthe-et-Moselle), et Allen Henderson, 65 ans, de Greenville (Caroline du Sud), devaient se retrouver avec plusieurs membres de leurs familles, \u00e0 Colleville-sur-Mer (Calvados), o\u00f9 leur p\u00e8re a d\u00e9barqu\u00e9 parmi les 132 700 Alli\u00e9s mobilis\u00e9s le \u00ab Jour J \u00bb, et assister \u00e0 la descente du drapeau am\u00e9ricain, au son de la sonnerie aux morts. Sur son profil Facebook, Allen Henderson a publi\u00e9 plusieurs photos de son fr\u00e8re et de lui-m\u00eame \u00e0 diff\u00e9rents \u00e2ges, soulignant la ressemblance frappante entre les deux hommes.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Une aiguille dans une meule de foin \u00bb<\/h3>\n

\u00ab Enfant de la guerre \u00bb n\u00e9 d\u2019une m\u00e8re fran\u00e7aise, Andr\u00e9 Gantois a 15 ans quand il apprend \u00e0 la mort de celle-ci son histoire d\u2019amour avec un soldat am\u00e9ricain. Ir\u00e8ne, qui avait revu apr\u00e8s la guerre son amant, avait cach\u00e9 \u00e0 ce dernier sa maternit\u00e9. Andr\u00e9 Gantois na\u00eet en 1946. Aux Etats-Unis, le GI, lui, a refait sa vie et fonde une famille.<\/p>\n

Lanc\u00e9 dans une qu\u00eate \u00e9perdue pour trouver son p\u00e8re, la premi\u00e8re tentative d\u2019Andr\u00e9 Gantois, alors \u00e2g\u00e9 de 20 ans, \u00e0 l\u2019ambassade des Etats-Unis, \u00e0 Paris, sera vaine : \u00ab On m\u2019a r\u00e9pondu que ce que je demandais, c\u2019\u00e9tait comme chercher une aiguille dans une meule de foin. \u00bb Les autorit\u00e9s am\u00e9ricaines le suspectaient de faire des recherches pour obtenir un d\u00e9dommagement, affirme son fils et avocat, Alexandre.<\/p>\n

Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce que sa belle-fille l\u2019oriente vers un institut am\u00e9ricain sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 en recherche d\u2019ADN. \u00ab C\u2019\u00e9tait une recherche inesp\u00e9r\u00e9e. De toute fa\u00e7on, je disais toujours que je mourrais sans conna\u00eetre mon p\u00e8re \u00bb, confie ce retrait\u00e9, ancien fonctionnaire de La Poste. En juillet, il effectue un pr\u00e9l\u00e8vement de salive qu\u2019il envoie aux Etats-Unis. Il ignore alors que trois semaines plus t\u00f4t, cette entreprise a \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9e par la famille Henderson de mener une recherche g\u00e9n\u00e9alogique fond\u00e9e sur l\u2019ADN. Les r\u00e9sultats tombent d\u00e9but ao\u00fbt : \u00ab Les tests se sont crois\u00e9s et l\u2019agence a d\u00e9termin\u00e9 que j\u2019avais un fr\u00e8re aux Etats-Unis et que j\u2019\u00e9tais de famille am\u00e9ricaine \u00bb, raconte Andr\u00e9 Gantois, encore \u00ab retourn\u00e9 \u00bb par son histoire.<\/p>\n

Allen Henderson a lui aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 surpris : \u00ab Oh ! j\u2019ai un fr\u00e8re, j\u2019ai un fr\u00e8re \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9 au m\u00e9dia local 7News. \u00ab [Andr\u00e9] n\u2019avait aucune id\u00e9e que nous \u00e9tions ici et, bien s\u00fbr, je n\u2019\u00e9tais pas \u00e0 sa recherche, car je n\u2019avais aucune id\u00e9e qu\u2019il \u00e9tait l\u00e0-bas \u00bb, confie-t-il.<\/p>\n

Des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l\u2019Atlantique, les deux hommes sont mis en contact, \u00e9changent des photos. \u00ab Les gens autour de moi me disent : \u201cMais c\u2019est incroyable, la ressemblance, on dirait vraiment des fr\u00e8res !\u201d \u00bb, s\u2019amuse le Lorrain. Comme son \u00ab demi-fr\u00e8re d\u2019Am\u00e9rique \u00bb, Andr\u00e9 se coiffe avec la raie sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9, porte des chemises \u00e0 carreaux.<\/p>\n

Il d\u00e9couvre le visage de son p\u00e8re et apprend qu\u2019il a aussi une demi-s\u0153ur. \u00ab Mon p\u00e8re, c\u2019est ma gueule tout crach\u00e9, le m\u00eame sourire, tout est pareil. Tout est arriv\u00e9 d\u2019un coup. Je connais m\u00eame l\u2019emplacement de sa tombe au cimeti\u00e8re militaire de Los Angeles \u00bb, se r\u00e9jouit-il. \u00ab Il va falloir maintenant que je me mette \u00e0 apprendre l\u2019anglais \u00bb, glisse le Fran\u00e7ais, gouailleur, qui ne s\u2019\u00e9tait jamais int\u00e9ress\u00e9 \u00e0 la langue de Shakespeare.<\/p>\n

Plus de soixante-dix ans apr\u00e8s, la question des enfants n\u00e9s de Fran\u00e7aises et de soldats alli\u00e9s reste m\u00e9connue, souligne Emmanuel Thi\u00e9bot, historien au M\u00e9morial de Caen. Am Sterbebett seiner Mutter fand ein Franzose heraus, dass sein Vater ein amerikanischer Soldat war. Erst nach \u00fcber 50 Jahren Suche konnte er nun seine Halbgeschwister treffen.<\/p>\n

Mehr als 50 Jahre lang hat ein Franzose nach seinem Vater, einem im Zweiten Weltkrieg in die Normandie entsandten US-Soldaten, gesucht. Im Alter von 72 Jahren schloss Andr\u00e9 Gantois nun erstmals seinen Halbbruder und seine Halbschwester in seine Arme. Er sei \u00ab\u00a0hin und weg\u00a0\u00bb, sagte der Franzose am Montag nach der ersten Begegnung mit seinen Halbgeschwistern in Colleville-sur-Mer, einem der Landungsstr\u00e4nde der Alliierten im Zweiten Weltkrieg. \u00ab\u00a0Ich muss jetzt Englisch lernen\u00a0\u00bb – denn bisher sind die drei auf einen \u00dcbersetzer angewiesen.<\/p>\n

Gantois hatte erst als 15-J\u00e4hriger am Sterbebett seiner Mutter Ir\u00e8ne erfahren, dass sein Vater ein GI war. Sie verriet aber weder dessen Namen noch andere Details. Als Gantois wenige Jahre sp\u00e4ter in der US-Botschaft in Paris erste Nachforschungen anstellte, \u00ab\u00a0sagten sie mir, ich suche nach einer Nadel im Heuhaufen\u00a0\u00bb, erinnerte sich der fr\u00fchere Postangestellte aus der ostfranz\u00f6sischen Region Lothringen.<\/p>\n

Schwiegertochter schl\u00e4gt DNA-Test vor<\/h3>\n

Trotzdem suchte er unbeirrt weiter und durchforstete Dokumente der US-Armee und der Justiz. Der Durchbruch kam, als Gantois’ Schwiegertochtereinen DNA-Test f\u00fcr die in den USA beliebte Plattform f\u00fcr Familienstammb\u00e4ume, MyHeritage, vorschlug. \u00ab\u00a0Ich habe nichts erwartet. Ich hatte mich schon damit abgefunden, dass ich sterbe, ohne zu wissen, wer mein Vater ist\u00a0\u00bb, sagte Gantois.
\nDoch nach der Einsendung zweier Wattest\u00e4bchen mit Genmaterial wurde der Franzose \u00fcber einen Treffer informiert: Sein Halbbruder Allen Henderson aus South Carolina hatte sich zuf\u00e4llig drei Wochen vorher ebenfalls an MyHeritage gewandt, um etwas \u00fcber seinen Familienstammbaum zu erfahren.<\/p>\n

Beide tauschten Fotos per E-Mail aus – und die \u00c4hnlichkeit war verbl\u00fcffend. \u00ab\u00a0Leute um mich herum sagten mir, wie unglaublich \u00e4hnlich wir uns sehen\u00a0\u00bb, sagte Gantois. Nicht nur \u00e4u\u00dferlich sind sich beide \u00e4hnlich: Beide haben eine schwarze Katze und stehen auf karierte Hemden.
\nNeben seinem 65-j\u00e4hrigen Halbbruder Allen Henderson bekam Gantois noch eine Halbschwester dazu, die 70-j\u00e4hrige Judy Rogers. Seinen Vater konnte er nicht mehr treffen: Er starb 1997, ohne je zu erfahren, dass er einen Sohn in Frankreich hatte.<\/p>\n
